The parched fields of summer gave way to the boggy swamps of winter. From dusty great expanses to squelchy marshland seemingly overnight. A veritable Wellington wonderland.
I thought I knew this area like the back of my hand. And indeed I did, but only the vehicular routes. But, I’ve been rediscovering the locale since walking the length and breadth of the footpaths and bridleways. No longer just the trans-village routes, but now the inter-county rights of way too. I’ve reached crossroads and made decisions.
Sometimes it’s easier to think in the rain, sleet, gales, fog and snow. Careful as I go though; it’s always the dog-walkers who discover the bodies, isn’t it?
Exercising and socializing Nada has done just the same for me. New friends. Well, almost . . . Dalmatians aren’t that common here, and she gets all the attention. Middle-aged neurotic loonies are everywhere, so I don’t.
Still, I’ve got a reason to get up in the mornings now, and something else to care about other than myself. That might just stave off therapy for a little longer.
I’m creating memories for tomorrow, even if I never revisit them.

Oh, wow, those pics are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Su. Thanks for dropping by :)
DeleteThe fabulous Sir Tom Eagerly says:
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Ms Maskie. As Sir Tom sits here gazing out over Eagerly Manor, morning sun streaming in, empty bottles all around, old cigar butts filling the ash-trays, he has to smile.
You've 'reached crossroads and made some decisions'. How significant and revealing that remark is. I used to make decisions. Don't do that kind of thing any more.
Toodle pip old thing!
Nice doggy, by the way.
That’s some decision to make, Sir Tom, deciding not to make any more decisions. I fully approve though.
DeleteI suppose, realistically, I reached cross-paths rather than crossroads, but that didn’t sound so good, or significant, so I lied.
Thank you, she is a nice doggy.
By the way, I am impressed by the humble name of your home :)
Nice to see Nada growing up! Mad dogs and Englishmen eh!?
ReplyDeleteHope you have recovered from your fall! (I have my spies everywhere!)

Sometimes it might be better (or, at least safer) to see Nada growing up from a safe distance.
DeleteYes thanks, my arm is a lot better now. Think It’s my age you know. Or the alcohol :)
I'm just about to go for a walk in a local nature reserve (Chigwell, Essex). I hope it looks a good as you pics! If I'm lucky I might see a beautiful Dalmation too. Sorry to hear you had a fall. Get well soon.XX
ReplyDeleteClick here for Bazza’s Blog ‘To Discover Ice’
Pride always comes before a fall, or so they say, so I’ll blame it on that, Bazza. It wasn’t too serious.
DeleteHope you enjoy your walk. I don’t really know Chigwell (I know Chingford though if that’s any consolation). If you do see a Dalmatian, beware; they’re quite mad :)
Beautiful photos. Gorgeous dog!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie, she is a gorgeous dog . . . she gets that from my side of the family ;)
DeleteShe’s not so gorgeous when she gets up before me and wakes me up. I knew I should have got a pet sloth! :)
"I’ve reached crossroads and made decisions." What a walk does for one's soul. Especially there, in your beautiful Wonderland.
ReplyDeleteThat Nada is a real firecracker, isn't she? Who wouldn't want to go for a hike with her!
Yes, Jayne, it certainly does do the soul good. Unfortunately while the body shivers though ;)
DeleteAnd, yes, Nada is gorgeous. Although, I have to admit to being ever so slightly biased :)
Gorgeous pics Mask, and as for Nada..she has 'character' written all over her...
ReplyDeleteOh, I can’t take any credit for the pics, Frosty, I have to give that to the Chilterns. As for Nada, she certainly does have a lot of character. As I write this, she’s slumped next to me (in my seat) sound asleep. I love her to bits. Although, knowing you have a dog, I’ll be coming to you for tips I’m sure :)
DeleteI came here as I thought you ere in Wellington NZ but seeing the snow you are probably in England. great pictures and you've got a gorgeous dog.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Marja, I’m definitely in England, the sodden country where you need Wellington boots just to step foot outside. If you’re interested, we could export some of our snow?
DeleteAnd, thank you, I think I have a gorgeous dog too :)
These are some amazing, beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, fit-to-be-tied. I’m very fortunate to be able to roam this countryside :)
DeleteGorgeous pics!
ReplyDeleteI find that taking care of something or someone else can be very therapeutic. That dalmation is so cute too!
Jai
Thanks, Jai. Yes, it has indeed been therapeutic. Most of the time at least. On the other hand, I might need more therapy as a result of some of the teething problems ;)
Deletethe video was awesome with a beautiful background track ...and the second photograph...lovely... :)
ReplyDeleteas usual loved your writing!!
Thanks very much, Flying high in the sky. I thought Paganini went well with the clip too. And as with all the photos, all credit goes to the Chilterns and mother nature, of course.
DeleteI would like to do more writing, but the dog keeps stealing my writing chair :)
Lot's of beautiful photos in this post! It would really take some getting used to cold for me. It might be made up for by all the old buildings and ruins though. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOh these cold spells never last for too long, Pat. It does look better than it feels though :)
DeleteYou took me back to the days i spent growing up in a pretty village in England. Paganini...happy days! Love the pictures too. Sorry I have not been around much, trying to get a new blog up and running and it's driving me nuts!
ReplyDeleteKaty (Superman Sammy)
Hi Katy, lovely to hear from you.
DeleteI know what you mean about setting up a new blog. I was going to do the same myself, but shelved the idea. One day. Good luck with yours.
The dog is growing up not by the days, but by the hours. Judging by this portrait, she will soon start talking :)
ReplyDeleteShe certainly is growing fast, Olga, although I dread her first words. No, actually, they’ll just be something like, “Feed me!” I’m sure ;)
DeleteThose are some georgous photos! That pup is so darn cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Pat. The pup is cute, but a real handful :)
